Clear Sky Ensemble
Niwel's 10-piece band the Clear Sky Ensemble sold
out the Everyman Palace Theatre for their first gig in June and
since then have been having a blast playing for festival audiences
in Donegal, Mayo and Leitrim. The band is really looking forward
to playing the Spiegeltent in the Dublin Fringe Festival on Wednesday
September 19th. The show has met with fantastic enthusiasm from
audiences - we're looking forward to performing the music written
specially for Clear Sky, the Big Bang Symphony, in Dublin.

Cork
City Council Grant awarded to Niwel: October 2006
Niwel
has just been awarded a grant by Cork City Council Arts Office Project
Scheme for a cross-cultural musical ensemble. Featuring Cork-based
artists both national and non-national, this group will reflect
the shifting cultural mix in Cork city, and will also be joined
by major visiting artists.
Over 6-8 months
Niwel will compose new material for, and in collaboration with,
the new 'all-star' ensemble, developing a new cross-culture sound
for Cork.
Niwel's work
is complex and demanding and this project necessitates skilled
and dedicated collaborators. Though ongoing exploration and music
dialogue, a new music of quality will develop that will truly
reflect the dynamic of today's Cork, and attract listeners locally,
nationally, and internationally.
